The story of the wood :

My next door neighbour was working at pub in the village of Croston Lancs, which was being renovated and he noticed a piece of wood in the skip which he thought would be of some use to me, so he brought it home. It turned out to be part of an original oak beam which had been in situ since 1640 when the building had first been built. The piece I got has 64 growth rings which indicates that it has been around since at least 1576.
Last Sunday I had a drive out to the pub with the intention of asking the landlord if he knew where abouts the beam had been situated, and, as there had been many additions to the building over the years if it had come from an extension then that could have cast some doubt on to the beams real age. The landlord pointed out that the beam had indeed come from the oldest part of the building....Result !! now I can advertise it as being 'Over three hundred years old'.
Now it just so happens that I had a few pens in the boot of the car ,indeed some made from the pubs Ye Olde Oak beam .....would you like to see some pens made from your beam I asked. His fatal reply was "Yes please"....first one out was the Cigar ..which I call 'The Delamere' on my web site. Without seeing any others he said "I want that one "...to which I replied ..."It's yours". ££££ He then went on to say that his Chippie brother was over from Australia on holiday and he had seen the oak beam and had expressed that would have liked to take it back with him when he left for home this coming Thursday, but obviously that was impossible. So, so that he could take at least a bit back with him ,could I make a similar pen for him .Flushed with success at selling TWO cigars at the same time I said yes ,only to realise that I didn't have a chrome cigar kit in the drawer. So hear we are up to date..............

The boxes Peter are from TR £2.75 ea thay also do a similar one with a white satin lining at £2.40 nicer but you can't get the lid down if you put a cigar in it.

Ed, coming in at this stage I see that Aussie chippies have great taste, we are a sentimental lot especially since the brother had already capitulated (couldnt miss out on that story). The pen we see here is truly a keepsake and a product of your workmanship. Although Grump has already said and I agree the pen kit can be a trial in this instance it serves to create a chunky amount of that special timber presented in a most fitting box, light and easily carried to Australia. Aged buildings are not so frequent in our country when all my families emmigrated in the 1850,s the population of Autralia was only in the thousands. What can I say mate like the constellations everything came together at the right time for you and especially them, I call them magic moments. For the help and cooperation of Jim
well done mate.

Kind regards to you both. Peter.:goesred::claps:
