My wife saw a woodturned Christmas decoration on the web and fell in love with the concept. She has now ditched 50% of her glittering baubles and given me instructions to turn a shed load of wooden ones before mid December when she pits the tree up. My job is to turn them and hers is to decorate them, here's a picture of or first joint effort. I think the bottom finial needs to be a bit thinner in the next one. Looks like I'm going to be busy this autumn.

Blimey how many are you going to turn if you have started this early will the tree hold the weight of them all.

Yes the finials do need to be slim and the ball hollow if you can as to keep the weight down. You could also make some of these as well they are hollow as they are made in two halves.
