After several months of no turning, not enough time and other things going on, I've decided to give up on this turning lark. I have met many new friends in the turning fraternity, most of them through this wonderful forum, thank you all for your help over the past three or four years.

I am currently away in the caravan but when I get home I will be putting all my worksop equipment up for sale, I will initially do this through the forum for sale page. So keep an eye on the for sale items.

Included in the sale will be
  • Jet 1221VS Lathe (less than 8 months old)
  • Robert Sorby PRO Edge
  • Axminster NVD1500 Vacuum / extractor plus 50mm pipes, gates etc
  • Charnwood 715 10 inch bench mounted bandsaw
  • Rigid disc / belt sander
  • plus lots more, I will put up photos costs etc on the for sale forum

Other stuff also to list, lots of blanks, chisels, chucks etc

May accept an offer as one lot if anyone is interested.

I empathise with you Billy, as I don’t think a day goes by without me thinking about giving it all up with everything else we have going on in our lives, I wish you luck with the future & selling all your gear.

That is a shame Billy. I hope you have some other hobby to keep you occupied or is it a case of enjoying being in the caravan so much and you are going for a nomadic life style.

I'm truly sorry to learn that Billy. I know you went for some bowl tuition with Neil Lawton broaden your horizons a short while ago, but I think that maybe the call of the Caravan has well and truly bitten you. Good luck in selling off all your gear - I'm sure it won't hang around long, and people will know it comes from a careful owner. Enjoy your breaks away with your wife, and do drop in to the forum from time to time to keep in touch with us all.

And a personal thank you from me too, for all the support you have shown me over the years, both as a turner and a supplier, and on the forum.

Best wishes for your future
Phil

Sorry to hear this Billy it's been a pleasure reading your posts and looking at your excellent work over the past years. I went through a similar phase last year and came close to packing in but found a new lease of life and back in the shed again now.

I wish both you and Marg well and I'm sure that you have some great excursions planned . Hope you will still pop in the forum from time to time to let us know how you are doing.

All the best mate

Good luck Billy mate and thanks for your contributions here. If I were you though I would hang fire for six months as you may get the turning urge back and it’s an awful expense to replace everything.

I have to agree with this. I haven’t turned anything for almost a year and everything has been in Storage however, I moved all my gear from one storage unit to another recently, and the smell of all my wood and seeing all the gear again stirred the urge to make shavings again. I may not make much in the way of pens again, but I’ve got some ideas for other things to make. Good luck with it Billy. If you do go ahead with the sale I’m sure you’ll have no problems selling it here. I would’ve been interested in your lathe, but I’m after something bigger like a Nova DVR or Record Maxi 1. :thinks:

The lure of the Bacchus hotel has got you then?:thinks:

Whatever you do, do it because it's fun! I loved the course days you were here as you were so enthusiastic, and it was so good of you to choose my tuition over the many options you had available.
As the first one in the new Atelier teaching space, your picture will forever adorn the cover of my course leaflets, unless of course some pretty ladies book in. Then you're history!:funny::ciggrin:

Keep in touch!

Hi Billy
I would like to say to you that I got fed up with turning, tried to sell my Woodfast lathe & other good stuff luckily not much of it sold, now I'm using the gear all the time, so it may be worth hanging on to it all just in case you get the urge to get back into it, good luck whatever you decide
