Finish-Ferecla-MM and resin polish.Reverse painted. What is Ferecla-MM. What does Reverse painted mean. What is the process of reverse painting.:thinks:

1.finish
Ferecla is a cutting compound that takes out scratches from marine and car bodywork. Resin polish is Autoglym car polish.
MM is micro mesh is a surface finish "sand paper" type material that goes up to 12,000

The thing to remember with finishing is being aware of the coarseness of the product you are using, like if you were to use a 2500 Wet &Dry paper then use a 3200 MM then the 3200 would be rougher than the 2500 W&D.

This is my process.(I say mine as it's the way I do it, doesn't mean it's right)
1 turn down the blank to just over size with skew or Carbide tipped tool.
2 lathe spinning, sand with 600
3 lathe stopped, sand with 600 horizontally
4.lathe spinning use 300 ferecla paste
5.lathe spinning use 500 ferecla paste
6.lathe stopped use 2500 W&D (wet) horizontally to remove any fine rotary lines.
7 from this point it's lathe on/off for 4000 MM, 8000 MM, 12,000 MM.(wet)
Then polish with Resin polish.
The whole process only takes a few minutes from start to finish.

The key point is making sure you have a decent light over the lath so you can see along the pen and make sure all the scratches and rotary lines are removed. You may have to stay on a finer grit depending on what the finish is looking like, then move to the next one once you are happy with it.

2. Reverse painting.
Simply drill the blanks to suit the tube size, then paint the inside of the blank with a suitable co,lured acrylic pain. Allow to dry and then glue in the tubes.
I use two part epoxy glue and also mix a little bit of acrylic paint in to suit the coulour of the blank.

Ferecla have now stopped doing the 200,300 and 500 and have changed to the G3 materials. I have brought some but I'm not as happy with them as the old stuff so I may well end up trying a different approach and see what others are using.

I understand Yorkshire Grit is supposed to be good and may have to try some soon as my stocks of ferecla is dwindling.:sob:

Hope that helps.
