Do you have a set of transfer punches? If not get one they are invaluable. What you need to do is punch out the top finial and clip, when that is out use a transfer punch or something that will fit snuggly into the tube and rest against the plastic insert of the centre band and tap it out. There is a PDF in the Tutorials section, but it is fairly easy to do.

Let us know how you get on with the Omega centre band Chris. That one has eluded me so far (I've got imperial and metric transfers) as it is very tight with little to grab hold of

Tap harder, you may break the plastic and need a new one from Dan.

Seeing is believing Peter - I've gone way beyond tap without any success :sob: already got my spares lined up but thinking I may need to make a puller with clamp on tube (and tube internal support) to remove. It's not a lot of dosh but it's the principle.

I've not made any Alpha's yet but that insert looks longer than my wellies so maybe same issue there

I do remember it being tight as I talked to Dan about it and said I am sure it will break something and he assured me it wouldn't, it did go in and I haven't had any other kit that tight. I haven't need to take one apart so can only imagine it may be problematic. Maybe some wd40 down the tube to try and get some between tube and plastic insert.

Hmmm, doesn't sound promising. I've got some punches on order so will report back. I'm really keen to get it out if I can....the turned body is really lovely but I noticed after assembling that the centre band had a couple of small nicks out it....too big to deal with unfortunately but at least that means it doesn't matter if the bands damaged, just need to get it out.

Well......took the advice and got a set of transfer punches. Worked a treat. Took a bit of work but a .5" punch got the centre band and plastic thread insert out in one piece

So you can all take collective responsibility for this:

It looks good:thumbs: Did you need to use any wd40 to help get the fitting out?

I didn't try the wd40 mainly because I was worried about it contaminating the wood. It did however take quite a bit of effort to get the band out so a light spray may well have helped,

I am glad to hear this worked, hope it does for me. Will know as soon as the punches arrive.

Todays lesson check and then check again which end the grain matches before pressing the centre band on.:sob:
