The kiss test is to put a pointed centre in both head and tailstock bring the tailstock right up to the headstock the two points meet up that is the kiss they should be aliened perfectly another point is have you got any of the mandrel bar showing behond the bushes with no thread on it to fit into the mandrel saver if not this is probably your problem threaded rod is smaller than the rod itself
