Well I can see the old man from a stick carving. And does not look too bad. Keep up the practice. Did you use one of the hacksaw knives.

Yes I did Del and I ain't frightened of it no more, long way to go to get accurate cuts, it's where the blade its placed to start the cut is where I need to work on I think.
Good fun doing this when pi55ed you don't feel the pain so much init, I do have a glove coming, I thought from Northampton until paypal told me I had just paid Wun hung lo init?

Vic took the words out of my mouth. Take away the beard and I'm sure there's a likeness:ciggrin:

That's a great 1st attempt Brian, you should be well pleased with it, so this time next week we can expect a full blown statuette?:whistling:

Just a thought. If you don't mind doing a bit of heat treatment you can make an extremely useful hook knife or scorp. I have a Pfeil full round scorp which is great but also one identical to this Erik Frost double edged one which is a delight to use. I've seen home made ones just bent out of hacksaw blades and just as useful.

I watched a couple of the vids of the carving guy in your other post, very interesting to watch. It's getting there Brian, better than my wood spirit stick when I had a go. You've got the basics and the proportions are there, what wood is it you're using, looks like pine?

Brian, you've made a helluva start! much better than me when I started many moons ago.

A broom shank (or whatever) isn't always the best material to start with and to hold and you aren't used to the tools so if that was a practice piece you've done pretty damn well (It didn't start off as a foot square blank did it?:whistling:) A face is probably the most difficult subject to attempt as a first. You do plunge in head first mate!

Now, as I'm a lazy git and rarely finish anything I start, if you keep going the way you are I could well be sending these to finish off for me:ciggrin::wink: AND...before you lot start, :funny: none of them are selfies or based on anyone I know.

I have a few of those, some not started. They aren't chunks of carving wood Jim, they are branch "knobs" which I used to collect when walking the dog. Some of them just leap out to be carved and are already part way to a subject. No idea what the wood is.

Who does it look like then?
