Went to the shed this morning to make a pen and ended up with this, Remembered when i put a bit of wood on the lathe that i have lost my depth thingie, so i ended up with this!:nooidea:

I have a U shaped depth gauge one end has a point on it, the other end has a laser pen aimed directly at the point. When i touch either the side or bottom with the point the laser registers it on the outside of the bowl. and if you run it up the inside it shows the different wall thicknesses. works great.

Well I've allways used guessodepth with a chisel before. I guess one of these is on the cards now... Thanks for showing but mine won't be segmented in any way or form. :thumbs:

I think the segmenting serves a useful purpose: if Terry ever comes visiting and tries to half-inch it he'll have a job claiming he has one just like it so his 'confusion' was perfectly understandable ...:funny::funny:
