Just seen this.

pen blank cutting jig | eBay

:thinks:

What do you think ?

I was thinking how dissapointing it would be for a newbie, thinking it would square off his blanks as well as cut them..:rolling:

Miss leading as we know that squaring off the blanks for finishing needs to be done to the tube. :rolling:

Overall it's a good idea for cutting blanks and using the tube to get the accurate length..

What is more simple than pencil marks on a bandsaw sled ..

My thoughts Jim.

But many new pen turners see this as the answer to their dreams, but once they learn what they actually need it becomes just another tool to say you have but don't use.

Mind you I have a few other tools that I could say the same thing about..:goesred:

The method I use is good enough for me. If the blank is cut to the exact length of the tube think how fiddly it will be to glue the tube in exactly the right place. I also wonder why he's selling it if it's so good.

50 yrs ago I met a mate who we would call a plodder set in his ways this is the sort of thing he would adopt and adapt methodically learning as he went moving on as he became proficient. When I met him he was a Police prosecuting Sergeant later on I was at a Photographic Society meeting when he arrived we greeted one another he said I just spent 50 Quid on a Camera which way do I point it. He wrote in note books the processing chemical formula was slow and steady then became a prominent Amateur Photographer listened watched noted composition methods then as the best Competition Photographer became one of Australias best joined CSIRO Research Organisation as a Scientific Photographer for many years. He is a typical example of methodically working his way to the top, This device would have suited him in his progress if he was learning to turn pens.

Peter.
