Took delivery of a box of goodies from Bear Tooth Woods today. Thought I'd try out a Pensar kit. These are good for using up the endbits of leftover wooden blanks that accumulate over the year. The two tubes are the same length as one Sierra Twist Pen tube. The instructions showed a picture of a pen made from black and white acrylic - so chose ebony and maple. Not quite happy with the ebony, I always have difficulty finishing it - perhaps use african blackwood next.

Happy Christmas to everyone. May you have a Happy Pen Turning New Year and may your pen selling exploits be fruitfull in 2014.

Fiona and Andrew,

Happy Christmas to you both, the kit frankly is a bit of an oddity in my opinion. The top of the pen is straight and the bottom is curved but the top is within the dimensions of the bottom so trying to get smooth curves from the nib end onto the blank and finish it at the top is a bit of a non starter. Thanks for showing it but I think Ernie's cobbled this one together, the centre "Centre band" - why??

Take a guess
It is a little unusual & not a kit I've seen before, that said I would like to see it in the flesh before I pass judgement & the workmanship looks spot on:thumbs:

I can foresee me placing an order with BTW in the new year as they do have some lovely gear.

It's not the first time I have seen this kit and I have not liked it on any occasion I have seen it. Still don't sorry.
Concur with the above statement wholeheartedly though.

Nice workmanship there fi and drew.

I have seen quite a few of the pens that bear tooth have made, they are a good quality kit and most of them look really great, but I think this style is "just trying too hard to be different" when I don't believe there was a need too.

Nothing wrong with what you have done with it, just not my bag I'm afraid ..sorry..

I think this could be the next Polaris..:face: oh sorry, I just said it...:whistling:

Merry Christmas you and happy new year to you both

Hi Fiona first a very merry Christmas to you and your family also thank you for showing the pen if I'm right is it the kit that you can make up with or without the centre band if so I would like to see it without before I make my mind up about it personally I wouldn't go as far to call it a Marmite pen as I think there will be a market for them also your workmanship is without a doubt faultless so thank you again

Merry Xmas Fiona and Andrew... this is a new to me kit which I haven't come across before, your turning etc looks faultless ,but would like to see it in the flesh before committing myself to liking the kit.

Thanks for all your comment everyone. It looks as though this kit has been given the thumbs down by most - whilst a few remain undecided. I think Jim called it a marmite kit by which I think he mean't ~ you'll either love it or hate it~ (please correct me if Jim if I've misunderstood) and I certainly agree with that. I must admit, I quite like this one ~ poor girl I can hear people thinking perhaps she needs new specs~ I was also a bit worried as I'd purchased five kits and judging by peoples comments they might not sell. However, to my suprise two have already gone. Having said this now, I'll probably find no one wants the other three. Perhaps, I've found the only two customers in the UK with bad taste. OR perhaps the customers that bought them didn't like them either and are planning to give them to someone else for Christmas!! Oh dear someone's going to be dissapointed.

Kind regards Fiona

Nothing wrong with the workmanship but i agree with everyone else. The kit is hideous. If you want to use small scraps then segmenting is the way to go and would look a whole lot better. Not sure of the thinking on this kit. I would never buy them and I am sure they will not be around long. If you like it then that is all that counts. Thanks for showing.
