I’ve used electrolysis with a washing soda solution to remove rust many times and find it very effective. It only seems to remove the rust without damaging the underlying metal. I’ve only used plastic containers for the process though.

Do you have any companies that use this type of thing as it would be a better option?

If you decide to go ahead with the bath then stand the cabinet on some plastic insulation and don't touch anything. Just take care and out of any chance of danger to you or your property

Dalboy there are some in the background of the picture. ;) Plan b would be to line the bathtub with a sheet of thick polyethylene.

Pete

Yes but to get them Mark may have a small drive of 500km just to get there, to get them as I think you will find that is where he got the lathe from and not his back yard.

Oh well that could be a problem then. Guess he should have thought of it when he was there picking the lathe up. :)

I mentioned to him in another forum that I don't see a problem with using the bathtub as long as it is insulated from the ground it sits on and the part is insulated from the tub. Connect the tub to the electrodes so that it also takes the rust from the lathe bed if there are any chips in the tub finish.

I noticed with great interest Bunnings are selling those clam shaped sand and water holding bath type things for 12 dollars they are wonderful assets for your task. Only you can know if these are brought into Tennant. Thicker plastic sheeting abounds these days with this in mind you can line said bath or use pond lining that sells by the metre another cheap method to answer your question.Everything you do in an isolated area determines how to overcome.

Only ones I have seen around here are used for fuel storage, mostly blokes and contractors working out bush.
, reckon they would get a hit agro if I tried to nick one.:whistling:

I got the old bath out, put silastic over all the chips, Had a bit of builder plastic, enough to cover 1/2 up the sides,
Put the smaller cabinet in, anode each end, filled the bath covered 9/10 of the cabinet, switch it on, all appears to be working fine.:thumbs:

I have got a bottle of Evaporust
On another forum I saw someone who made a trough just big enough to do one side of the bed at a time.
My maths tells me I would need 2.2lts proberly 2.5lts with the evaparation here.
Nearest available to me is MT Isa Supercheap, $42.99 per litres plus freight.:vangry:

If I use either Electroisis or the Citric acid (when it finally arrives) will either harm the bog on the lathe bed?:scratch_head:
