Does anyone on the forum engrave brass or do you know anyone who could engrave on a piece of brass. I am making my Granddaughter a couple of pens which will go into a lovely wooden box and I would like to have a piece of brass with her name engraved either for the top of the box or possibly inside the lid. I may decide to etch it instead, depending on time restraints.

Hi Peter

I had small brass plates engraved for both my parents when I made caskets for their ashes, not the same I know but was very happy with the results. they were done by one of the usual small engravers / key cutter shops which are in every town. Prices if I remember were very reasonable as well.

I pass one each time I go into town and never realise it is there. Do they usually supply the brass or is that something I would need to supply them with?

Thank you both:thumbs:

Yes Timpaons do do them but it find they are on the expensive side Peter.

They supply all the materials.

I have had many done over the years and usually on line suppliers such as the one below.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171637658...49&var=470615802315&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I didn't even think of trying eBay, I don't know why as it is usually my first port of call even if it is just to check prices.

Looking at their site they say Gold or Silver and I really wanted Brass, but it is so cheap that I will have one made just to see what it is like. I have always let the client have their own made, that's why I didn't know where to look, but depending on the quality I may just offer it as a service.

Thanks for that Eamonn I will order one later when I have finished the BBQ.

My brother used that company Peter and the service and engraving was good so no complaints. You get what you're paying for though, it's aluminium with a thin colour coating.
His was for a local kids rugby trophy and suited the purpose.

With mine, I actually cut my own out of 2mm brass sheet, filed and polished it. It was for a very personal project though and had I felt confident engraving as well I would have done so.

I still want brass, but I have had another idea that the eBay ones might be okay for. I will have a look at Timpsons and see if they supply decent brass or whether I have to cut my own and like you polish it.

Peter, some one recently posted how they do etching , would this be suitable?

I do etch and it is a possibility I will do that if I have time.

Take a guess
If you have a local trophy seller then chances are they will engrave, all the ones I've used do, they also have small plaques usually brass colour if not brass itself
