He used a free hand a couple of times but prefers to use the metal lathe.  I set him up with a carbide tipped fitting on the quick release post.


He has found his own way of tapering them, he has the lathe on auto feed and turns in the cross slide a very little bite a time and re-starts in the same place so its tapered.


He did have quite a few disasters in the learning curve. this is the result of two years "on and off" training.


I helped him with the finish as he was struggling to put the pressure on to sand out the fine lines with W&D and MM.


He doesn't use superglue only epoxy as he gets in too much mess and tries to stick all his fingers together.


He has done a good 90% of all the pens today. Just needed guidance of what types of pens and what bushes and how to make sure he has them the right way around..(digital calipers measurements.)
