I grabbed a dirty old turning blank
thought i would make SWMBO a red wine goblet

even after telling myself a goblet..never again
my skill set is pretty low to say the least
anyways I digress
the blank was 6" x 3" x 3"

rounded it off between centres and thinking it was hard going...after sharpening gouge 3 times
put a tenon on one end
stepped back and had this embarrassed look and thought to myself:nonono::nonono::nonono:

The penny dropped and I realised this was a huge lump of LV

do I back away or just say to myself, she is worth it ?

the blank was among a pile I bought for next to nothing and already I had my moneys worth

and apart from pens what else would it be good for?I have loads of LV pen blanks

pics to follow if I ever get it finished

Steve

A good body building challenge. Good luck Steve. Just think of the brownie points you'll win when you've finished.

What else are you going to use it for? Pen blanks? A bowling ball? OK scratch that last idea
It's going to be a long hard slog but you know it will be worth it in the end

That usually happens to me when I choose the best blank I own to try something new and untested on. Then when I %&*$ it up I berate myself for having wasted it ...

You could always save the shavings Steve and make a lignum shavings pen. Just a thought, it would make me cry to see so much of that fine wood disappearing.

Just looked it up in Mark Bakers book wood for woodturners he recomends wet sanding with oil to a very fine grit and wipe with cellulose thinners and pollish with oil
he says it can resist some finishes but doesnt state which ones
