These are the new Exemplar kits from CSUSA. The blanks are Color Grain from PSI, and are similar to the old Dymondwood blanks. The blue one is called Winter Garden, and the red one is Night Fire. They turn and even smell like Dymondwood, but I think they're slightly lower quality. But still, they don't look too bad. The pens are very simple, yet have a classy look, IMHO.

Agree with your assessment Jim, they make a change and I will look into them further. Dymondwood is tough as nails to work with and yes it finishes better than this new one.

I got the impression from how this turned that it's not hardwood veneers. Dymondwood was hardwood, I believe.

Very nice Jim :thumbs: We could certainly do with someone coming along to fill the void left by Dymondwood, they were always high quality blanks :thinks:

I too miss Dymondwood. I used to turn a lot of it. But the factory burned down several years ago, and no one has stepped in to fill the void. Pity.

My carry pen for many years was a Dymondwood until I misplaced it, people were fascinated by it, bit of a worry really because I found it a mongrel to work it.

Peter.
