Now that the comp is ended at last maybe some semblance of sanity will return.

My first attempt decided to divide itself into many parts and migrate to the far corners of the workshop which as it was 90% finished provoked some rather choice words and raised queries regarding a certain forum members parentage. Feeling much better after the outburst I proceeded to produce more failures.

The spalted beech effort pictured was doing well until the skew took on a life of its own and overcut the nib end. Bl**dy hell, no-one to blame but me this time:rolling:

A nice bit of elm burr followed and turned ok but I really don't like the closed end twiddly bit so discarded.

My final failure turned into a standard pen which I'll post separately in another thread as it's a first for me and I'm pretty pleased with the effort.

Good luck to everyone who managed to make the stunning entries I've seen so far, I'm in awe of the skills some of you guys possess.

edit - sorry Jim just realised I posted in the wrong section

Never thought of that Woody, I guess I was so disappointed I just put it to one side. Good Idea, I think I'll do that.

I will as well Jim. What Peter did was push some of us well out our comfort zone which is great from a learning experience perspective.
My main problem was I think that I was rushed into making a chuck and made a poor job of it so that will be the first thing before trying again. I'll have to dig out the metal lathe I guess1

I agree, Peter did take us out of our comfort zones. But sometimes it is good to try things you wouldn't normally do.
Bob, I didn't even notice your first pen being undercut until you mentioned it. Good idea of Woodys regarding the second pen

I think they look superb and like Chas didn't notice the undercut, I am so glad you had fun making them and I am sure I have been called worse:mooney2:

:thinks: Now there's a thought. A rusty pen. If they can get away with it on the Angel of the North:whistling: Think it will sell?
