That is a damn good effort John, did you follow Brian's tutorial for this?

If you read this thread it will explain as to why the images are skew whiff .. :winking:

That's a fine attempt, and no it's not from my tutorial.
It looks like yours is a routed box, mine is a drilled box for those who don't have or cant use a router.
Only criticism and it really isn't one, pen looks a bit lost in there, Made for a larger pen.
I put a piece of foam in the bottom of my boxes to protect the nib from being dropped in the box it also helps to bring them up off the bottom.
You can see my box here but you already have it cracked by the looks of things init?

i have a small router table , the ryobi one , so yes this one is routed , i have since made a wallnut sierra pen which fits in much better , the wood i used was just pine for the main body , and oak for the sides , now that i know how to build the box sucessfully i'm going to build a one from wallnut and cherry , good contrast i hope .
I really want to have a go at turning a bowl , and have just got my grubby mitts on a second hand copy of "woodturning a foundation course by keith rowely , i've just built the sharpening jig he has in the book , so a bowl is imminent lol

That is very nice John. My only criticism is the photo which would look so much better with a plain background.

Very nice 1st attempt, still waiting to do mine. Have alook on You Tube at TimberBits, great box tutorial.
As for the bowl, use YT again for technique, Mike Waldt does some good training vids, but best recommendation is to join a local club and utilise the experience there.

I agree with you regarding the box David makes Kevin, but there is a lot of work involved for an average weekend Joe like myself .. :winking:
