Due to popular demand here is the long awaited post about my first pen!

I was lucky enough on Thursday to go over and see Woody for some basic tuition. I met him and Violet and they couldn't have made me feel more welcome. Big thanks for that
Spent the day in the workshop where he took me through the stages of pen making and you can see the result.

I really like the pen but do have to admit I had a LOT of help with it, especially the detailing on the top!
Really enjoyed myself and got to see some incredible examples of his turnings. Left with a bag of blanks, couple of tools, loads of helpful advice and feeling full of enthusiasm.
Hope you like :whistling:

That's very nice, Matt! Having had a little tuition from the great man myself, I know how lucky you are to have had him to yourself for a bit. Looking forward to the next few pens!

You have chosen your mentor well Matt...I am thinking moving in next door to him and maybe blagg a few lessons myself. Great looking pen ,far more sophisticated than I could ever hope to produce.:claps:

Believe it or not, he used to live just down the road from me..... If I had started turning then he would never have got rid of me :funny:

That is one nice pen Matt but that bloody rotten photo don't do it any justice LOL :funny: it was a good day Matt and I must say your a born natural what other people cant see apart from the fact this is your first ever pen is the way you made that pen and the tool control also the fact that you mastered the skew to such a level that you could have got away with sanding it it had that good a finish of the tool well done and I await your next pen with batted breath again very well done Matt
Please take another photo with a plain white back ground and it will show the pen of better

Lovely Pen Matt for the first one. You've certainly had a good mentor in Woody. I wonder if I could entice him down here for a holiday? :thinks::thinks:

Like the man said on television but wait theres more, penmaking, photography and beating back the rellies when they see your pen mate it is something for a first pen and as good as so many others on this forum. Very kind of Woody as well as Violet who have a reputation for goodwill.

Kind regards Peter.
