Derek gifted me an Elm blank which I am trying to turn into a potpourri bowl. Not finished yer as I have had to secure some cracks and waiting for the adhesive to cure. But this is what it looks like at the moment.

I think it Elm.....has a great figure.

Looking good so far [MENTION=1856]Frederick[/MENTION]. Not Elm as I do not have any that small. I think you will find it is either Holly or Field maple

Thanks Derek. Whatever that wood is, it turns and sands beautifully. Takes a finish as well.

Very nice shape and finish Frederick. The only thing I personally would do different is the recess for the insert make it smaller so as not to see the wood through the pattern, but that is only me.
