I had my first go at casting tonight. I thought I'd be able to make a blank with 3 colours but it goes off all of a sudden and the red was a lump as I poured it and so it was impossible to mix the colours together and so also a few small pinholes. I put it in the pressure pot but think the damage was done before I put any air in at all. A disappointment was that I used pearlex for the colouring but there is no shimmy at all. Roll on MkII tomorrow.

Its all a learning curve with casting ... sometimes a bit less pearl ex will give a better shimmer ... the light needs to pass through the resin a bit to get the shimmer, I mix the resin and mica then leave to sit for a while somewhere warm for a while which helps the little air bubble release, then add the mek

A nicely turned pen Paul and many people will like the colours separated that way, you may get more requests for a similar mix & not be able to recreate that look :whistling:

It is better to have tried and failed than to fail to try the positive thing about it is at least you were able to turn it so you got something right mate the next lot will be a lot better says the man who has never tried it like most of us on here so on average you have done better than most of us

Credit to you Paul as Woody said the majority of us on here have never had a go. Me for one I don't fancy having a go at it I will just buy them from you guys who have perfected the art.

Thanks Vic, I won't be selling any as there are already 2 very good blank makers on here (Brody and George). I always have the urge to need to know how to make something which is what got me into woodturning in the first place.
