Here is a picture of the first pen I have ever turned. Did it last night using some wood from an old door.

Sorry about the picture quality.

That's a cracker for a first pen! Dimensioned nicely to the accents, bit of a shine on the finish, nice even turning - lots to be proud of in that there pen. Well done!

Pretty good for a DJ would be nice to call you by name. Your first exceeds many I have seen bit over the top taking on a door for a pen blank but it worked out fine. Now as you glide down the slippery slope of addiction look for interesting timbers to make pens with choosing those that are recommended for ease of turning so your confidence will be improved do not take on plastic too early because it ribbons out and is another medium to conquer.

All confused but as Ed says you soon will be by the wealth of info and help out there.

Welcome from over here to you kind regards Peter.:goesred:

For a first pen DJ it demonstrates that you have the skills required to make a master turner, with practise which I an sure you will perfect over time and experience gathered.
Keep spinning young man that is a fine example for your first effort.
Now put it somewhere safe and look back on it after Christmas to see how you have improved, Put that one with it and do same again in a year.

It is so refreshing to see a pure pen made by a beginner we can be so busy trying to make a better class of pen we forget our roots it is good to see a simple pen in a pure form letting the wood do the talking it is a well turned and finished pen thank you young sir for showing it and welcome to the ranks of pen making a long and slippery slope
