My first try at casting and I got some bubbles in them :sob:
I hope I can improve but I wonder if the temperature has an influence on the setting time, it is cold up here.

Well done:thumbs: Don. I have been waiting for your casting attempt. Temperature does have an influence on setting time, the slower the setting the more chance of getting rid of the bubbles. did you use anything to get rid of the bubbles? I can't see any bubbles.

Thats very nice Don... as your own best critic, if there are bubbles only you can see them but I'm sure you'll get better and better

Very nice job Don. Can't see any bubbles on magnification. If you have bubbles in your mix try getting rid of them with vibration, maybe set your bandsaw away & stand your mixing pot on the saw table. The vibration may be enough to drive the bubbles out then pour slowly into your mould. Probably telling you what you already know but it may help someone.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. There are bubbles but I must admit I was very pleased with my first cast.
As the saying goes 'onwards and upwards'
The Brittle Bone Society pen is for my nephew, for his Christmas. If it is ok I will make some up for the charity to sell.
The other pen is for the vet's surgery that gave me the syringes to to get me an accurate measure on the materials I used.
EDIT Thanks Brian that seems to be a super idea, I was using the bandsaw yesterday and it did vibrate.
The only worry I have is that the mix goes quite stiff fairly quickly. The first pour in the bottom is ok as I can get rid of the bubbles, but the second pour gave me the bubbles under the tubes, this is where the problem seems to be.
Any help is welcome :thinks:

Looks good Don  I'm no expert on casting and haven't done it for years but from what I read putting it under vacuum does the trick.

That's one excellent first attempt Don, I have never done any clear casting for pens as yet so I have to go down that track when I get some tome.
