Here is the final product!

Finished by sanding through to 400 grit, then more coats than I could count of CA glue, and a final burnishing polish.

Thanks for all your nice comments, they are greatly appreciated! Obviously I did get a lot of help from Robbie, who showed me the various techniques involved. :love_it:

Well done on the first hopefully of many. You have done a great job of it, having the watchful eye of a fellow turner helps all be it the other half.

Helen with a single blank that is special mastering the sizing of the blank at both ends so well then attacking the problem CA finishing is highly commendable. Way to go.

That certainly does NOT look like a first pen. It looks most accomplished, and whilst I realise you had a tutor standing at your shoulder, it puts many first attempts to shame and is something you should be extremely proud of. Congratulations - it's excellent.

:thanxs: Wow, thanks everyone for the fantastic compliments! Not sure I'm quite ready for 'going solo' just yet but I do hope this will be the first of many more! I will certainly treasure it! I am extremely proud thanks, Phil! It also writes wonderfully, probably due to the Soft and Smooth refill I used, which we bought from Dan in York yesterday.
