This is my first attempt at segmenting, someone i work with wanted a pen on a chess theme, at short notice this is what I came up with.004 (640x367).jpg

Have you tried using decals beneath the finish on your pens? If you do another and you have enough time you could apply decals of chess pieces around the barrel. Just thinking out loud.
