Hiya I have a fox fx4000 ( not the new shape ) and have 4x sets of jaws for it but it is a pain to be unscrewing and mounting jaws everytime i want to change.

I want to do the same as I do with an axminster chuck and a toolpost versachuck but poolewood or fox donot sell the carriers seperately to have the carriers permanantly on the jaws.

I know that a few other manufacturers jaws fit on the fox but do those manufacturers jaw carriers fit on the fx4000?

The reson i ask is that i doubt that, versachuck and axminster jaws are interchangeable but the carriers are not which is a shame as toolposts carriers are cheaper.

Or to make it simpler if anyone knows where I can get fox4000 jaw carriers from without having to buy the full chuck that would be a big help cheers.

Understand mate I keep jaws on chucks full time. I can not count the times I have bought universal fittings and attachments proved to me a real pain and excess grief.

Not sure I understand Mark. If, as you say, you already use a Versachuck, you are already familiar with the concept it uses, in that the versa jaw carriers are made and supplied by Toolpost in the various configurations to fit countless makes of jaw. Therefore, why not simply either invest in the correct versa threaded backplate for your lathe, or better still, buy a another Versachuck with the correct backplate. Then you can use every single one of your existing jaw sets with your Fox.

If you stop to weigh up the cost of a hole raft of new jaw carriers against a new chuck, I doubt there is much in it, and in fact a new chuck may even be cheaper.

Hiya Phil, the versachuck already fits my lathe I dont need another backplate, the versa and fox are both m33 3.5, the axminster clubman I have has a spindle thread adapter as it is 1" 8tpi, I can use all the chucks without a problem but I have jaws without carriers.

Like today I had to unscrew jaws from the carriers/mounts to fit the big boy 125mm compression jaws I have to a chuck for a wet turned hollowform, it would be a lot quicker to just unwind the jaws untill they come out of the chuck then wind the 125mm jaws on if the 125mm jaws had the mounts permanantly screwed to the back of the jaws, no allignment issues to fix either.

I have 4 sets of axminster jaws 1 of them has versa carriers on them.

I have 3 sets of fox jaws aswel that came with the 2nd hand fox chuck but only 1 set of carriers., and yes i do use all 7 jaw types ;)

Had a look on the Fox website it said this:
All the Jaws and Accessories from the Vicmark VM100, Record RP100, Rutlands Dakota XT700 and Charnwood W830 will fit on this Chuck.

Easier to change a chuck than the jaws, good excuse to buy another chuck.

woodturning RECORD Power chucks | eBay

I would love to have 7 chucks instead of 7 jaw carriers but the bank would hate me even more ;)

I wonder if I'm missing something here? If you have jaws you want to fit on your versachuck but you don't have the appropriate carriers for them without robbing Peter to pay Paul, why can't you just buy the appropriate carriers from Toolpost? Am I being dim?

Over time I find the locking screws work loose unevenly and I spend quite some time maintaining various chucks and jaws, quite a collection now. Ever so happy with the latest two jaw chuck from Vicmarc. The fact they came from metal lathe backgrounds very much in their favour.

Sorry ive been real busy and havnt had ti.e to get in the shed to take pics, yes i could order some carriers from toolpost for the versa chuck which I intend to do but its the fox carriers im struggling with as fox dont sell the carriers seperately, I was just enquiring to find out if another manufacturers carriers work on the fox or if someone knows where to get the fox carriers from if another firm sells them.

Yeah there are a few other jaws that i want like the axminster 400mm bowl reversing / button jaws but i would be buying the carriers from toolpost to fit them to the versa chuck as the tp carriers are about £10 cheaper compared to axminster, the fox chuck i have bowl reversing jaws for but they are about 150 -200mm and the sizes of my bowls are creeping up over 30cm, a wet turned one i did last week rubs the banjo if im not careful and i had to swivel the headstock 90 degrees to round it of,water spraying off like a sprinkler head in the face.;)

Those are the chucks and jaws I have, 2 sets of jaws not in the photo ive put in a cupboard as it is very rare I use them, all the axminster ones I use are sorted for carriers so I just need 2x sets of fox fx4000 carriers to mount the jaws on ( like I have on the o donell long nose jaws ) .

Gonna ask peter at toolpost tomorrow when he is in work to see if he can source 2x sets of fox jaw carriers and screws for them, of anyone else has a clue where to get them ( as I said in a previous reply fox or poolewood don't sell carriers seperately ) then I would be very apreciative.

Thanks, Mark.

Good luck with the Jaws etc you rang a bell referring to Mick O,donnel jaws I spent a wonderful week end with Mick many years ago here in Canberra, remember he and his wifes contributions to turning and their phillosophies as expressed to a small group of us
The Arts Council sponsored Mick and using a very well known pro turners set up it was to enjoy and learn. At that time he lived on the northern most tip of Scotland.
