Hi all,

Well my Mylands is coming to the end of it's bottle, so I need some more but thought I'd canvass opinions first. I do like the Mylands but wondered if there was something else that was more suited to what I do.

Which is the best friction polish in your opinion ?

Does your favourite benefit from anything added afterwards? Eg Woodturners stick

Bear in mind I will want it for pens as well as bowls etc.

Thanks in advance

Friction polish now there's a subject with a million answers and all different for pens I will only use the hut crystal then the Liberon Woodturning Sticks which are are a unique blend of carnauba waxes and resins or eee shellwax again with the woodturners stick I have also used the record Speed n Eez F/P for years with great success which was considered the best at one time as it doesn't need sanding sealer first
As for bowls friction polish is only meant for bowls under 6" wide personally I will only polish a decorative or ornamental bowl's or a small life bowl any other bowl I always use oil so that they can be used for any food stuff without effecting the finish but that is me

I have only ever used the Hut Crystal Coat, works for me

Then finish with Hut Satin & Gloss sticks, which i'm not sure about, will be experimenting with something else in the future but don't know what. :thinks:

In my opinion it's not what you put on the friction polish but what's underneath it that will answer your question Phil. Lots do options, no wrongs or rights but I use and prefer épée cream rubbed on with the grain and polished off which cleans and lubricates the wood and enhances the grain, and when that's done I use a small amount of shell away put on with the lathe running full speed.

Sand to 400,cellulose sanding sealer, sand to 600,wipe on friction polish, leave it a minute, spin the lathe up and apply pressure to the polish then once it's fully hardened, apply renaissance wax

I use Chesnut SS and Chesnut friction polish

I started out with myland's, but found that if a pen was used regularly, the acid on your skin made the finish dull where your fingers touch the wood. I still use it on items that don't get handled a lot.

A million and one answers eh Phil. I don't think there's much to choose between the friction polishes so the choice is yours. Whether to use friction polish, now there's a question.......

Me thinks she'll away best, chestnut second and the my lands a very watery third. Never used the hut. What others are there?

Have got mylands and chestnut and like them both. Don't really have a preference as I change how I finish things to suit. Id go for the cheaper of the two mate.
