I have been commissioned tomake a Gavel set for our local Rotary Club. I have pieces of buffalo horn which I was looking to place on either end of the gavel. If they were glued in with ca glue would this be strong enough to hold them during use?

Thanks for that, the epoxy is the two part glue is this correct? If I use that will it stick and take the bashing. Unsure just how much it will be used or the punishment it may get. This was just an idea and am unsure if I will use it. Just keeping my options open.

I would drill through and insert a threaded stud then screw one of these on the end.

Woody is the guy to see re making gavel sets - because he's appeared before so many judges he knows exactly what to do!

I could not comment on this...Woody does not seem to be the sort of person who would go before a judge...but you never know:drool:

I use the two part epoxy John that will be fine but if its going to get a lot of use then I would make it all out of one piece of hardwood as an insert could split in time

Cheers Woody, I am not sure how much use it will get so a one piece is probably the best idea. Although I am going to make another and try out the buffalo horn.:winking:

I agree totally with Woody. If the head is made in one piece of timber then you don't have a problem John.
