Haven't done gear shift pens before, but after receiving an order for a pen for a birthday present, and learning that the recipient was an amateur racing driver, then I thought the gear shift pen was the obvious choice. For the original order, I decided to do the pen with a base for display on his work desk, the chequered flag was made from 3mm perspex, segmented to make the flag design, I continued this onto the base as well as the pen.
Another customer seen that pen and asked for one for a friend who's a bit of a van fanatic, hence the engraving that was requested.
