Hi all,

This is made from stabilised Olive wood and has CA finish. I enjoyed making this one. Unfortunately, the stabilisation process darkened the wood quite a bit. This time i placed more light
on it when i took the picture in hope that the definition of the grain would improve.

It looks fine Frederick, the grain is lovely. Will we still be allowed to turn Europeans when we leave the common market? :thinks::thumbs::thinks:

Never stabilised Olive Wood mate,was there punkiness involved. I find it a hard timber indeed. I let it dry naturally over years. I have one to finish from Aussie grown Olive now.

Colour varies all the time and as you found some chemicals make it very dark indeed hard to photograph.

Thanks for this. Much appreciated. Brad thought that this is Elm and not Olive wood. It wasn't punkie, in fact it was very dry and very light and when turned just seemed to disintegrate into dust which is why I stabilised it.
I had two of these blanks which came in a bundle of ordered Olive wood and they did look different, but I am no expert. Thanks for the advice on the preparation of Olive wood. I will, of course, be guided by you and store it for a few years and not stabilise, The other blanks, which are probably Olive, seemed to turn differently and smell great, so maybe they are.

Best of luck with your home grown wood, like to see it when finished.
