Glue Gun

Do you good folks have any preference when it comes to glue guns?

I have seen on the dreaded YouTube a few people (woodturners) seem to use them.

When I have looked at them on the internet thingy there seems to be so many different types and power ratings, Do I need to be looking for any potential pitfalls with them or are they all pretty much the same?

Hi Gary,
i bought a Loctite Glue Gun from Halfords. Used it regular, never had any problems. to unstick it from wood, use methylated sprit, it comes of easily.

I have not long replaced mine with a Bosch one works great for the turning that i do

I've had the Bosch one for 30 years now. When I worked in a local school we used to go through loads of the cheap ones though a lot of the time this was down to kids burning through the mains cables.
Just make sure it is described as "Hot melt" as there are "Cool melt" ones available and they are no good for turning.

Decided on the Bosch PKP 18 E

Got to say it looks a nice bit of kit, only comes with 1 stick of glue. No idea how long a stick will last so ordered 50 more for £6.80, just checked and seen the price has been reduced to £4.25 so ordered another 50 Silverline 698462 Glue Sticks 11.2 x 100mm Pack of 50: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

You won't go wrong with the Bosch, I also bought one a few years ago after a previous Bostik gun failed and it's chalk and cheese comparison, I can see it seeing me out.

I’ve got an axminster Be220 one and it’s very good I load that with their whiteish sticks which set semi hard.


I then bought two heavy duty 3M quadrack ones that use a VERY-HOT and very hard tan coloured glue. These are my go to for face plate work as the glue is easy to fracture off by hitting it with a wide flat chisel on the glue line. It’s also really hard and easy to carve file or cut off. You can even sand it but if it gets warm your sanding pad is history !

I’ve used a few different makes over the years but my preference is the Bosch.
