Hello and welcome from the warm wet south of the country....we're all beginners even after my modest 10 years, I am always learning new ways to Fox things up!
AW205WL should be fine - I have a modest Record DML24 and it seems to do most things that I ask from it.

Hi Dave welcome to the forum. I have a second hand Clarke lathe that is old and worn but has been serving me well for a few years now, but I have my eye on getting an AW305WL for my Christmas (will be after Christmas as I'm hoping they do a sale and reduce the price a bit, who says Scotsmen aren't tight )
