Have you ever had a bright idea that turned into a disaster? Well, I thought it might be a nice idea to do a bit of mosaic on a pen just to try something different. So I turned a modified slimline and set about tiling it with some small tiles, 3mm square. It was very tedious and it didn't come out anything like how I'd pictured it. There were several issues. The bulk of the tiles made it too fat at the top, so the clip looks wrong and because of the small diameter of a slimline the tiles had too much gap between them which meant too much white grout shows. Then to add insult to the process, when I came to press the pen together I found that I got the blank the wrong way round so the nib piece had no tube to press into. So if you are wondering why there is a step at the nib end and it looks silly, that's why.

I've showed it just in case somebody else is thinking of giving mosaic a go and also thought it might raise a smile. :rolling:

Other than the odd mistake and pieces not fitting, it was a good idea. Really don't think I would have the patience!! Your tiling and grouting looks good though:thumbs:

10 out of 10 from me. You had a go and it didn't work, but at least you had a go. Might do well in a Greek souvenir shop though. I'd make a few more and start exporting.

You are right Walter, I've got about 800 tiles left, but I won't be rushing to try it just yet:thumbs:

Thanks Phil, exporting them to Greece would be revenge for their yoghurt, which can be the downfall of many a good pudding.:winking:

I read your info before looking at your pen & was expecting a shamble but was very pleasantly surprised to see how neat it is. A great concept & now you know the pitfalls you can make a one that you an be proud of. Time consuming maybe but a great experiment. I admire your patience & skill.
