Hello my friends,
some days ago, I gave one of my pens to one of the customers at work.
He is a good customer and a good guy, so i gave him the pen out of generosity.
He looked at the pen (an acrylic European) and said: "Where do you get this kind of media? I work with something very similar tho this one, but i can't really make it shine like this" So i explained him, how simple it is and which type of sanding paper and polishing media to use.
He was so grateful that the next day, he came back in the store with this:

I discovered that he works for Gucci and he is making all sort of accessories for them and lately he is working a lot with acrylic.
The ones he gave me, are leftovers from the CNC lathe he use for production.
They come from very long blanks that are made here in Italy from a notorious producer (He can't say which one due to professional secret).
So i got my hand on some very high quality blanks only by giving him a pen :-)
The very good news is that he will gave me a lot more, from now on.

Who is a happy bunny now?
Francesco

The short ones are more or less 7cm with 2,5 cm of side.
He said that he have a lot of the green one, and I really hope so, since this color is a total cracker!!!

Cheers

Whilst you have been very fortunate to happen across these items and I wish you well with them.
I wouldn't shout from the rooftops where they came from.
You might find your supplier is no longer working for Gucci the product has been dropped from their range and you could be hearing from their lawyers.
I do hope not but you must realise the implications.

Brian,
as far as I know, this is not a line of acrylics that are made specifically for Gucci.
The guy who gave me the leftovers, bought the blanks directly to the manufacturer, turned the accessories and then sold them.
The only thing that gucci did, is design the accessory, so as far as I don't copy a product in their range, there is nothing to fear.
A problem can arise if I start to sell the pens turned with such blanks and I state that is the same material Gucci use for their products, but the few pens I sold so far are only made in wood.
Here in Italy there are a lot of pen manufacturers that use acrylic, so its impossible to sell an acrylic pen at a decent price, even if it is custom made.
Look at Visconti for example, a world leader fine pen producer like this, has started to make a full resin fountain pen in the 80€ price range and the factory is 20km from my house....

Cheers

Good luck Francesco, it was just a word of warning about using their name.

I know how these people work.
I was once approached to make an item for a well known London store, I did a proper costing and sent them a quote with my terms and conditions.

I was contacted by the buyer who tried to shout me into submitting to their terms and conditions which meant I would have been virtually owned by them and slashing my quote by two thirds of the price.
He didn't like being reminded that he approached me and not me begging them, that they were my patented goods and I don't get dictated to to by anyone.

He closed the call by telling me how big they are and will buy me out, sadly they never did or I might be wealthy now.
