Turning some acrylic this evening, near the end before sanding
the acrylic decided to shatter !
Luckily safety glasses on as bits pinged into my face.

Now I’m not sure if it was poor coverage of gorilla glue
or what.

Cleaned it all off and popped the tube in some wood instead
with a Bostic glue I’ve been using instead.

Make sure you let the glue fully cure. I'm assuming it was polyurethane Gorilla glue, not the wood stuff or ca ..

Polyurethane for wood.

2 part epoxy for Acyrilic ...

Yeah the two part epoxy, not superglue or wood.
Made the blanks up yesterday and used this evening.

Got to suss out the beat glue I’m sure. I love next door to a Halfords, not rated
the gorilla glue in the past but it was on offer. May go back to single super strong
Bostic glue .

I use Gorilla glue on all my blanks and not had one fail yet....(glasses and tin hat on now I have said that!):thumbs::thumbs:

It’s unfortunate Graham, but at least you were protected. The tube lived to see another blank. :rolling::thumbs:

Ive found some of the really cheap pre-made blanks to be very brittle if you bought them. Two have exploded on me in the past without any warning or real reason. May have just been unlucky!

Ive never had a glasscast or aluminite explode though.

Either way... its why the face sheild is there. Glad to hear nothing came of it but i bet it made you jump.

I use 2 part epoxy now, most of the time in preference to CA. Never really had a problem, but I always make sure that the tubes are very clean and free from any pollutants. I have been known to place the tubes in Acetone for a few minutes. Also, I ensure the ends of the tubes are keyed well and have plenty of adhesive.

Pleased you're OK but it is frightening when it happens.

Got some of this to try for woods ... I used a cotton bud to ‘moisten’ the inside of the drilled blank
and the glue over the sandpapered tube. I was gonna just dunk the blank or run under the tap shake it off but thought it might be to much ?

Got epoxy GG for the acrylics.
