Here are a couple of pictures of a hand held Sabre saw I made up in the past week. It is designed to be carried in a scabbard on a belt. I made this so that I can carry it in the woods to cut some fallen branches to dry out for turning blanks.

The handle is hand carved having been roughly cut on a band saw. It is made from Beech. I have set this up as a right handed tool the finger grips being on the left scale of the handle.

Very nice, I didn't even think of making one, I just bought one... What did you make the blade from?

Bought a fold up one from Aldis or the other one few years ago for Pruning, quite handy!

The blade came from a set of jigsaw blades (Wilko £3.50 for six assorted blades) I used the jigsaw blade as a full size one would get me a naughty boys chair in the local nick!!! Also to carry it legally, the blade needs to be in a sheath or scabbard.

That's Leftist!

I like it, have you used it in anger yet? How did you secure the blade in the handle?

The handle is made in two sections. A rebate is cut, with small carving chisels to meet the profile of the blade. The blade is then epoxied and pegged into one of the scales and the assembly is then epoxied to the second scale.

I'm adding a further pic with the Scabbard in White Oak. A Par a cord seal will be attached between the Scabbard and the Handle incorporating the belt hanger, seems I have to post the picture seperately

There won't be any more sticks from the dogs Peter. On Saturday the puppy (spaniel) who just goes hell for leather after the sticks got it pushed through the back of his throat. After surgery and £600 he is fine now but no more sticks, just tennis balls.

Devastated mate here I was happily sharing your outings and the dog suffers this injury with throwing sticks you have a chance for a partial clean bit to lift with the ball lots of slobber.Trust the recovery phase is over soon mate.

Kind regards Peter.
