Hi All,
My latest selection of possibilities,
Never heard of Giraffe thorn before, so here goes.... The pippy stuff has holes right the way through, so creative hat on... Might be CA and metal fillings
I know that giraffe thorn is the very thorny umbrella shaped tree that you see giraffes eating very carefully on nature programmes, but I didnt expect to see what a lovely timber it has. Looking forward to seeing it on one of your Leveches. ( as well as the others )
The fiddleback lime looks like it will show great chatoyance, and interested to see whay you do with the sweet chestnut.
Enjoy them.
Some really nice blanks there. I’ve never seen Fiddleback Lime before. Always thought Lime was a ‘soft’ hardwood because it’s a go to wood for carvers, I think. How do you find turning it? Love the name Giraffe Thorn, I’ve watched them eat enough of it but haven’t heard it called that. It’s Acacia if you’re interested. I use it for cutting boards.
Couple of thousand variations in Acacia, they abound indiginous over here,no Giraffs roaming however ,always impressed my all time favourite is Acacia Peuce a rare variety in guarded areas over here.
