Just a quick hello before I start posting, and hopefully acquiring some much needed knowledge.

My name is Les and I'm from Wigan, which is a large town in Lancashire. I own a Coronet CL3 which I recently upgraded to variable speed. I have made a few pens which I am quite pleased with but I am looking at trying different types and techniques including casting my own blanks.

Thanks for having me and I genuinely look forward to interacting with as many members as possible.

Welcome Les from over here, how did you convert to variable speed ,was it a kit for the Coronet or another way? I have gone another way using a bare lathe myself.

Peter.

Hi Peter,

I used a kit from Haydock Converters as the original Brook Crompton motor on my CL3 was vibrating quite badly, I tried changing the motor bearings but it was still vibrating so I decided to take the plunge. And to be fair it really does make life a lot easier as regards pulley changes, but depending on what I'm turning I still have to do occasional changes due to needing more torque. I also changed both headstock bearings so hopefully it should last quite a while.

Welcome Les in Wigan.
All the best with casting your own blanks. I have been looking into doing the same, ie pressure pot or no pressure pot.
