Hi Everyone, I’m new to the forum, although, I feel like I know some of you already! :) my other half is Kelvin (AKA Pittswood).

I was born with a physical disability and after being retired early from my full time job I needed hobbies to keep me busy. I have always had an interest in art ever since I was little so art became my first hobby. After 10 years of painting and drawing I fancied a change of direction so I took up woodcarving which I still love doing now and then. Then Kelvin set up his man cave so of course I just had to get in there too and when he wasn’t looking I pinched his lathe :whistling: to my astonishment and without any help I managed to turn a few bowls, a goblet and mushroom, even a lidded box!

I reluctantly handed back the chisels to Kelvin and took up leathercraft and this has been my passion for the past two years and I make all sorts of leather goodies by hand.

I’ll pop some pics up of my work soon and later some pens I have recently made.

I look forward to getting to know you all properly

Well, hello Christine - welcome. You forgot to mention that you take a pretty mean photo too. Kelvin likes us all to believe that he's the man behind the lens, but you and I know differently (oops - sorry Kelvin)

Hi welcome

Now you seem to have a whole list of skills ...challenge... how can you combine them with Woodturning?

I love the idea of mixing it up a bit... glass with wood... that sort of thing just don’t have the skill.

Hi Kevin, yes its great to combine multiple hobbies, it makes it interesting. I generally use pyrography to add my artistic side to my turnings and I would love to turn a tankard and add some leatherwork for the handle perhaps.

At our recent Exhibition of The ACT Woodcraft Guild I was fascinated watching a lady using what I considered old tech to shade a Tiger on wood,so detailed and beautiful. Welcome to the forum Christine from over here must be fun sharing the pen disease with Kelvin, all the best.

Hi Peter, yes there are some amazing pyrography artists out there, its amazing how they can get such fine details on wood. I can manage very fine detail on paper (see photo below), but I find it quite challenging on wood :rolling: as it behaves differently when 'burning' across the medullary rays. Not to mention how awkward it is to hold and 'draw' on a an object rather than a flat piece of paper. The worst thing is that you cant just rub out your mistakes :funny:
