I’ve been a member for a while but have been happy watching and reading member submissions, which are as a rule, very interesting and informative, thank you. I’ve been turning pens for 6 or 7 years now, starting off with the most basic kits, which I think is probably the norm for most people. Most of my pens sell at local fairs with proceeds going to local charities. Others keep the family members supplied with one off pens, which I’m sure they then sell to friends because they never seem to have any left! I never seem to make anything I can sell for myself. I still make the easier to assemble pens but during lockdown found that getting blanks was not so easy, so I started making my own wood, resin and hybrid blanks and tapping old mates up in Australia for the odd chunk of wood. I send kilos of pine cones to them in return. I also experiment with various tube covers such as animal print foils set under clear resin. The ladies seem to love them, who knew? Being a gentleman of leisure (posh for retired and bored), I spend most of my time in my workshop turning or challenging myself with other turning or basic carpentry projects. Sorry for such a long intro.
