Hello All,

I'm Andy and I've just joined the forum and wanted to say hello. I live in Merseyside with my wife Gill and a houseful of animals (2 dogs and 2 cats). I'm in my early 60's and looking forward to retirement, although I enjoy my job (most of the time). I have a raft of interests, which I find difficult to pursue fully because of time constraints. I've been turning pens with varying degree of success for about six months, after my brother said I should take a look at it (ebony was a bit of an eye opener - in a bad way. I thought it would polish up like a piano key, but it came out looking terrible, although I know why now - too much heat!)). Anyway, I think I'm almost fully tooled up now, although I always seem to find useful things that I don't have and which cost a fortune to have sent from the States, who seem to be much better supplied than us in pen turning stuff.

I'm just in the process of making Terry's jig for squaring pen blanks that I saw on the forum here. So, I'm looking forward to cracking on with that.

I've found that on this forum you just need to ask and you will get good advice.
About the ordering from the USA.
If your referring to Penn State.
Axminster tools can order them for you, it may take a month to arrive (depending on when they place their order).
Ring Axminister with the parts you want and if they don't stock them they will come back with a price for you and if you agree on the price they will order them.

Welcome to the forum Andy. You will find loads of useful advice on here and as has been said ask first before spending money across the pond. Most of what we need can be had here in the UK if you just know where to look. Nothing wrong with ordering from the US in principle its just the danger of getting caught out with unexpected duty. Enjoy being with us.

But in reality I have so many tools if I used everyone of than daily I wouldn't use them all before I tipped my clogs..
