Hi everyone,
James from Durham here. Just started turning this year and quite interested in pens. Made 3 so far, (all slims) one under instruction, and two on my own. The one under instruction turned out better than the other two, but hopefully with some practice they'll be flying off the lathe! Must order some more kits!
cheers:banana:

Welcome James.
I think there are a few on this forum from Durham.
Ask away on anything your not sure of, you’ll get plenty of advice.
Have fun.

Welcome James. Like all addictions it starts with just one and then, before you know it, you have been smitten. Fortunately this one is fairly harmless ....... usually!

Hi James - welcome to the fold. I hope you enjoy your new hobby, but be warned - it's a pretty deep rabbit hole you've stepped into.

Ah wow, Thanks everyone! Yeah I had some issues with torn grain towards the end of the end of the tubes, and not sure what is causing it.... blanks were Sapele and Meranti. Might have another go today with the walnut and see if a more closed grain wood makes a difference. Also think i'll try drilling the holes on the lathe as there was a bit of slop in the holes drilled on pillar drill.

Welcome aboard James, I'm not a million miles away in Northumberland but your best bet if you need expert advice and help is Bill Mooney who's probably not far from you.
He's a great bloke with a wealth of experience and knowledge which he's always happy to share.
