Help choosing a couple of Pens

I have been told I am making a pair of pens for a wedding present?!

My question is what pens would be good as a his n hers set?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

I haven’t done any wedding pens myself yet, but if or when I do I would probably go for the Beaufort Mistral or if they wanted bling I would go for the Roman Harvest.

I always ask if they want rollerball or fountain.
Surprising how many that one like fountain and the other rollerball.
Also have been ask to make them in serria style, as they wanted to be able use them in everyday life afterwards.

So... having been there many years ago, I know what you're saying when you say you're scared of the expensive kit... HOWEVER... Can you turn a pen to the bushings? Yes? Congrats, you're ready to tackle the expensive kit. (Assuming you like them well enough to gift one of course. ) If you're worried about your finishing skills, cheat! Go with a resin blank and you just need to get it sanding smooth and buff it out. I happen to know for a fact that a certain person named Phil just got a bunch of blanks in with diamond dust in them. Nothing says "wedding" like a little diamond eh?

Oh and I saw the slimline you posted a picture of today, you'll be just fine tackling a Mistral or similar. Don't let the cost of the kit make you doubt your skills. I'm more likely to screw up a slim line than a bigger 2 piece kit and I've been turning for 10 years.

I believe in staying within my known boundaries and having made pens for weddings for a long time you should be talking to the prospective bridal group people to learn what they would like.Its then all up to you,looks like your under starters orders anyway at this stage.Enjoy the jpurney mate.

I have a couple of pairs of Roman harvest kits that I bought over a year ago now, I’m wanting to make a couple of wedding pens using these blanks, but just haven’t found the time yet!

Are they just a gift Graham or will one of them be used to sign the register. If the latter then you have to be careful as usually it has to be a fountain pen and needs to use the registrar ink. Unless things have changed in which case ignore what I've just written

As far as the kits are concerned don't worry too much about not getting the turning perfect, the recipient will almost certainly not see the imperfections that you do. If you do make a mistake you can usually retrieve the kit parts although of course you will have wasted the blank.

Thanks everyone, I have been told by oh that we are giving pens just to make it a bit more personal and special.
They won't be used for the wedding and was thinking ordinary not fountain pen then if they want they can be used daily.

Least I have 2 weeks to sort it!!!

Thought I'd update the thread and say i went for a couple of Sirocco's in the end one in acrylic the other in cocobolo wood.

Loved the kits so much i have ordered a few more !!!

Oh, great looking pens, nice mix of acrylic and wood as well.

They really could have done with a nice Engraved box personalised for the Bride and Groom.. :wink:
