Hello folks

I purchased a keyless chuck and the first time I have gone to use it, it has seized closed on the drill bit. It is under warrant and will be going back (at the company's expense so I am waiting for them to try to say it must be returned under my own cost. The law on that is not in their favour I am afraid despite what they might want to say).
How can I release it enough to get the drill bit out as I don't want to send that backend lose it as well and it's needed.

As ever, all help appreciated.

I would leave the drill bit in the chuck, you may damage the chuck in trying to release it. Just charge them the cost of the drill and send it complete. Of all the years as a engineer, I have never heard of a keyless chuck failing, not a good brand named one.

Yup I am with Kelvin on this, if you do manage to get the bit out chances are they will say its not seized (well its not now I have removed my bit!) :vangry::vangry:

Thanks Gents. I have emailed them and are just waiting until they try to spring the old 'You pay return postage' nonsense. if the goods are faulty it is the seller who says return postage. Just a pain because I needed to do some drilling

You have no doubt already checked this but has it got a locking ring between the two bits you twist to tighten and loosen?

I only ask because I had the same problem, or I thought I had a few weeks ago, and it took me over an hour to realise it was locked, mine also has two small holes to insert a draw bar except they are too small so I put in an Allen key and undid it that way, 1 at the top and one on the bottom.

Good luck and I hope you get it sorted out.

They show the two holes that I mentioned, not having the spanner and a draw bar being too thick I put an Allen key in each and undid it that way.
The chuck I have also has a lock that is between the two holes.
I used the Allen key method 4 or 5 times before I could do it by hand which I do now with no problem.
