OK I think I have now got the idea what to do so I have found a piece of wood and mounted it on the lathe also found a pen kit. Does this look like I have made a good start:whistling::whistling::whistling:

That pen kit doesn't look like it is going to be any use in the competition, unless you are going to stun us with an exclusive design. If you can get a video of that lathe spinning that log I reckon you will be in with a chance of a visit to A&E:fart:

You are right the chuck end is not fixed in anyway just held in place by the tailstock pressure.

This is a piece of walnut have not really decided what to make from it maybe a nice largish hollow form, will have to resort to the other lathe after I make a steady which I have some roller blade wheels already.

The pen kit is one that I have had in the kit draw for a while now did not want to give too much away.

My pen for the comp is glued up and I did a Vic and chipped some off the end but not enough to effect it I hope, will not know until the glue sets overnight and I start to turn it tomorrow

It's a lovely chunk of timber and I didn't think for one second that you would attempt to turn it on that lathe. I hope your glue up is successful and we will have another entry into the competition:thumbs:

Well I got the tube in the blank after turning it down to size. will cut off the bit of brass as it is not needed why do the give you so much if you only need half of it. It don't look to bad will just put a finish on it what do you all think.
