Hi everyone,
I have been making pens for around 4 years now I think.
I first started on a small Zyto metals lathe that's now 71 years old, great little lathe but I soon realised I needed a wood turning lathe I didn't pay much for it and its a copy of many different ones but mines a FERM.
Im hoping to upgrade the FERM to a more robust lathe soon.
in fact the nova chuck my wife bought me for Xmas cost more than the lathe lol.
bought pen kits from the usual auction site and same with some exotic woods, and the resin ones I tried but wasn't too keen.
I have mainly made pens for friends and family, but my love is to make them for charity so yes I DONT sell them, I either ask for them to make a donation to a charity of choice.
I have made other items too from light pulls out of African Leadwood or a Spurtle (Scottish porridge stirrer) I made for a friend.
Over the winter months I had only made a few pens, i was buying from a supplier who sells Erinoid, Conway Stewart and Omas blanks and these are on a higher level altogether.
So from wood to cellulose to Casein i will give them all a try.
All the best
