This is one of Dan's samples a24k Streamline Stylus with Hickory, finished with Friction Polish and Microcrystalline Wax.
Like Terry's Sierra it appears to be a well made kit and will sell if priced correctly.
I know there are a number of people on this forum who don't like the stylus, in any of it's guises. But with all the touch screens, phones etc out there I'm sure the market for these pens is only going to increase.

The only issue I had with the assembly of the kit was that the upper tube would not fit over the twist mechanism. Once I had filed the end of the tube out a bit it went together fine.

What are you're opinions on the 24k kits? I have heard that the plating doesn't last long on them and therefore haven't bought any. I always go with the 10k, chrome or gunmetal.

If they plate with 24k gold I'm the bloody pope. It's far too soft.

If the upper tube didn't fit over the twist mechanism this is a rather fundamental flaw, I trust it will be resolved!

Yeah you're right Woody doesn't like the stylus!

That's a nice pen Chas, beautifully turned and finished.

The tube fit would concern me. I've had a couple from TB that were a very tight fit and having pushed them on I couldnt get the bl**dy things apart again without using a vice. No way those could be sold as the customer could never change the refill. Not such a problem I guess on a screw fitting where I assume the refill can be inserted from the nib end (is that the case?)

Dan,

If you get a few kits from the same batch and feel the ends of the tube by rotating the tube in the fingers of one hand and feeling the end of the tube with the fingers of the other, is it perfectly round. Let's face it the tubes are a set dim, the mechanism can be proved with a calliper and is probably the same as the ones produced in there millions and is unlikely to be defective. The tubes are clamped in three jaw chucks and sliced, there was a recent problem with one supplier who had the pressure set up incorrectly and the ends of the tubes had become ever so slightly triangular.

Nice pen Chas and a good review. All this feedback can only be a good thing in the long run

Nice work Chas it looks good except for the hat but that's nothing to do with your workmanship but apparently there is a market for them so why not

That's interesting Neil

I definitely had a few problems and have one tube which won't fit on the mandrel so is significantly undersized. I now put them on the mandrel to roughen up so I can check before glueing.

Yep, I agree with Terry, the 'hats' are here to stay and if that's what people want, who are we to argue. This is technology leading the way, we've not had them in the past because there has been no need for them!

These hats are a useless gimmick from my experience, I have given them to family and work colleagues only to watch them use their fingers on phones and tablets.
Anyone who buys one I bet it isn't for themselves but because you have told them It's the future and a must have component.
Good luck to you for getting the sale I say,
I won't be getting any more of them as they don't last long anyway, that rubber is quite flimsy after a few weeks in the pocket.

Simply my observations, I don't sell pens so have no need to be promotive.
I watched one bloke chew the thing off the top of his pen then complain about it being no god init?
I could agree with everyone else and do when when it's the truth but I ain't gonna tell lies.
I could just not comment which I am sure some would prefer but that is not an opinion is it?

If you you didn't comment though it wouldn't be as fun.

I like the streamline, its a good kit. I would use it as designed and in my opinion looks nicer with its centre band than the slimline because of the extra wood on it. Like Neil says there must have been something up with the batch of tubes for it to stick like that.

One thing that would have been in your interest to do Dan when sending out the samples is to also send the bushes so that they are turned as per the instructions.
