Not sure about this one!
I turned this the other day just as an experiment.
Peter (Buckeye) sent me a kit I had not tried before. (Thanks Peter!)
I tried to put a bit of shape into it, which I would not normally do.
I also tried a CA finish for the first time.
I've just taken the photo's using the flash, which I also never do!

Comments most welcome!

I like the wood Neil.

Oh and the finishing is good too. I'm not sure about the kit or shape but the grain of the wood might be throwing the eye out with the shape.

I was going to just leave it as I like the wood but that would have been too cruel so had to edit it
:funny:

Hmmm indeed ... Sorry Neil but I can't find much that's pleasing in the kit or the shape. Turning and finishing top-notch as one would expect of your good self.

Maybe slightly undercut at the nib end but i don't dislike the pen, me i would have not brought it in at the clip end with the shape chosen at the bottom. But it is good we all have our own ideas and opinions. Another comment i would like to make is on the CA finish, this being the first time you have done this finish i can say that it looks as thou you have cracked it my friend, the finish does look good Neil ..

Hmm. I guess as you were unsure of putting a shape on you and you have been to subtle. Therefore the eye wonders if it's a shape or an uneven level. Finish is very nice and I like the photo.

Though most peoples first shapes tend to be large bottomed monstrous ladies! Which now I think of it you were all so gentle as I showed my first pens off like a toddlers scribble. Here I am now cc ing a expert.

I think it looks okay, I quite like the shaping, but think you could have made it a little fatter at the clip end to continue the curve from the bottom. I don't know if you remember the one I did with a piece of your Olive wood, I left mine quite thick to show off the beautiful wood, but I think with your shaping at the nib end and the thickness of mine at the clip end would look good.

I'm glad the instruction made sense:funny:

Peter

I wish you had reminded me of yours before I turned this one Peter!!!

I like the kit and the shape, I think the nib end is a little undercut but apart from that the finish is rope notch and the shape is good.

I did one similar to yours http://http://www.penturners.co.uk/wood-turned-items/4580-serpent-wood-clicker.html and really like the kit..

Wish I'd looked at that one as well:funny:

I did make a "school boy error" with this one.
When I turn with bushings, I normally set a digital Calliper to the diameter of the clip and nib, and turn to that. I usually find that this is a slightly larger diameter than the bushings, even from new.
I didn't have bushings for this kit, and for some "Brain Fart" reason, I set the callipers to the diameter of the bushings, as shown in the instruction sheet!

Thanks for the comments guys, I personally do not like how this pen turned out, but I'm happy to show what I consider mistakes!
Every day is a learning day!:bwink:

I did, but it was proabably lost in the reams of instruction:funny:

You could always dismantle it and turn it again, this time with experience:whistling:
