So the curse of Garno strikes yet again :vangry:

Doing a "Loong Dragon Pen"

Picked a nice resin blank

Drilled a hole "Dead centre"
Cleaned it out nicely
Tested the tube fitting, absolutely spot on, like a foot in a sock.

Glued said tube into the blank making sure the glue fully covered the tube (CA medium)

Allowed it to dry and sanded the ends on grinder so all was well.

Started turning it and all was well UNTIL
a chunk flew off the middle exposing the tube, nothing else just the s**ding middle bit, enough to stop the job for me.
I will post a pic tomorrow.

No doubt the astute amongst you know where I went wrong, I myself know where I messed up and how I did :vangry:

Every time I try and turn something I mess up
This is the worse I have felt over turning and I came close to calling it quits
I will give you all a clue where I went wrong, I forgot to do something :rolling:

I am not going to quit just yet because when I get it right I make some lovely things even if I take awful photos.

End of moan
Thank you

I have lost count the amount of times I have had to make new parts for the wooden models that I have made. I just throw them away and start the part again not worth trying to bodge a part which is wrong. I have also throw out turning that has gone wrong as well as the odd pen ( I can say that Mark AKA flexi :funny:)

Gary a chunk coming out is an occupational hazard in this game, don’t beat yourself up about it. I always turn wood, never plastic, and if it happens to me I fill the missing piece in with powdered aluminium and super glue. Looks like silver when it’s finished. It saves throwing stuff away and adds character to the finished piece. At least that’s what I tell folks.

I forgot to scratch/score the tubes and it looks as though any glue has wiped off that small bit.

I will now look at how to use the aluminium powder to "repair" (very interested in that) anyone know what type as their seems tons of different types

Another option maybe....
I had some pens laser engraved and unfortunately he went a little deep and the tube showed, I then filled this with Milliput and it came out better than expected. Depending on your size hole you may be able to use that:thinks::thinks:
