I found this ad recently, thought this may interest one or two .

H.M.S Foudroyant was built in 1798 and from 1799 to 1801 was Nelsons flagship .She was wrecked on Blackpool sands in 1897 . A local entrepreneur bought up all the wood, copper etc and started a business turning vases ,bowls and making all other manner of gifts and trinkets to sell to the hoards of visitors to the resort. Pieces still pop up on ebay even to-day.

Take a guess
I've encountered a couple of wrecks on Blackpool sands in my youth, neither were as interesting as that, thanks for sharing Ed.

N.B From some of the replies and 'Likes' above it is obvious that historical interests and facts are not everyone's cup of tea. :mooney2:

Hey it's only light-hearted banter mate I'm not really upset or anything like that. I realise that I would get a better response on my detecting forum for the historical side rather than on a pen turning forum for the woodturning side. Horses for courses.

Luv you all.

I like anything I can turn that has any sort of meaning, I get whatever I can and they're some of my best sales. It doesn't have to be old either but most things that have provenance.

Value, interest sustainability all flourish while you are young provenance is difficult to prove watch the Antiques show in the UK I personally would prefer to have some of but family related mostly items some of those a precious as well. My GGGrandfather had a ring fashioned from a nugget of gold he mined in the 1800,s in Victoria whilst in New Zealand in 1962 I went into a jeweler t over there he took a quick look pulled out a 15X Loupe pronounced thats a nugget of gold that was found in Victoria Australia around the 1800,s and named the area where it did come from. So provenance can be expertly determined. Even the Queen sometimes uses gems substitute everybody is happy you dont have to label famous old to surround yourself with treasures.

Kind regards Peter.
