I don't do a lot of hollowing, so my little Crown Mini Revolution tool fulfills most of my requirements for this type of work.

However if I need to do a bit of deeper hollowing it struggles a bit because of the limited shaft length. I would have like to have the full size 5/8" shaft system but for the amount of hollowing I do I just cannot justify spending £175.
I did think about the "blade only" version as I already have suitable handles, but that is still £85. Even just the 5/8" shaft without any cutters is £31, which is more than I am prepared to pay for a steel rod with a flat bit filed on the end and a hole drilled in it.
Solution, make my own shaft and use the cutter from the mini revolution which is identical to the one on the full size tool. Quarter of an hour with an angle grinder and here it is, not as pretty as the Crown original, but does the job:
